Gamers will soon have a new landmark to visit: Nintendo is set to open its first museum in Kyoto’s Uji City, Japan. This museum, located in a renovated 1969 building, is significant as it is where Nintendo originally produced its Japanese and Western-style playing cards and repaired consoles.

The Nintendo Museum in Kyoto will offer a chance to explore vintage video games and early consoles. Visitors can also enjoy interactive exhibits, including a shooting game, a giant controller operated by two people, and displays featuring ancient Japanese poems. The museum is scheduled to open to the public on October 2, 2024.

Nintendo announced plans to open its first museum in 2021, with an original goal to complete it by early 2024. As the opening date approaches, excitement among Nintendo fans is growing. They eagerly anticipate exploring the history and evolution of their favorite gaming giant at this landmark museum.

In a recent video, Shigeru Miyamoto—the creator of Super Mario Bros and other iconic games—provides a sneak peek of the museum. You can watch the video here:

Nintendo began its journey into the gaming world in 1889 with Japanese hanafuda cards. By 1977, the company launched its first home video game machines, TV Game 15 and TV Game 6. The Nintendo Entertainment System console debuted in 1983, followed by the release of Super Mario Bros. in 1985, solidifying Nintendo’s iconic status.

In addition to the upcoming museum, fans can also visit Super Nintendo World, the brand’s first theme park, which opened in March 2021 at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka.
